9th Grade Growth
In Geometry's Design a Zoo project groups of three create a zoo with animals of choice. You pick the size of the exhibits for each animal to stay in. You have to find the area of the buildings to know what size to use. To pick the buildings in the first place, we had to find the area of the space the animals will use. After you pick out your buildings you draw the zoo to create a blueprint. This projected allowed me to grow because I learned how to take the area of hexagons and octagons.
My first artifact is the exhibit catalog which is a sheet filled with possible buildings you can use. You find the area of the buildings to know what animal can fit inside. My second artifact is the animal calculations which hold equations for each animal that you solve based on the amount of the animal you purchased.
These artifacts justify my growth because I did not know how to do the areas before, the artifacts prove that I now know them after practice and help. In the building sheet, there were hexagons, half circles, combinations of circles and rectangles, and octagons. I did not know how to take the area of octagons and hexagons until we did this project because, my partners taught me how. The animal calculations served as a review for me. I learned how to calculate equations already but, practicing helps me to continue to get better. Then calculating equations will be even easier and I can move on to more complex problems.
