9th Grade Struggles

In the Harlem Renaissance Gala Project, we select a person from the era and all we know is their occupation. The occupations are singers, dancers, artist, actors, politicians and more.  We research them to find out as mush info as possible so we can portray them at the gala. At the gala we try create a cotton club setting. The Cotton Club was a New York City Night Club where African Americans could perform. While we are there, we act as our person would will mingling with other people. The gala is made as accurate as possible. We wear clothing from the time period and there are performers based on who your person was.

My artifacts are the product requirement of the project. The person I had was Evelyn Preer. She was most known for being an actress. So, I created movie tickets. She also has a few songs so I created a record and a case for it to go in.

The hardest part of this project for me was to create an artifact. The purpose of the products are to convey an aspect of our person's life.  I was originally going to create a script based on one of the movies she was in. I could not find a script online to use or a script to get inspiration from to create my own. Since my person was an actress I decided to make movie tickets instead, I thought I could offer them to the other people attending the gala. I also made a record because she sings and has six songs.

Moving forward, I can try to make something from scratch in the first place, and not rely so much on the internet, because I cannot always find stuff online.  Or if I cannot create the product I want to make after a while, I should form another plan. Using an already made script would not have been an artifact because I did not make it, so I would have had to create a new script based on one I found. That would create more work for me to do instead of just making something the first time.
